My Favorite Ride - recently featured in the Thrill Ride Edition of the Patriot News
Posted in Harley Davidson Journal on July 6th, 2007 by dealerI was trying to think of my favorite ride on my Harley-Davidson Sportster and after spending a rather long time remembering past excursions and just going to ride, I came to the realization they all are memorable.
Some are thrilling because of where I end up. Then there are always the rides that take me through familiar territory that lures me back again because of the road being fun, or was that one just scenic? No, now I remember it was the amazing sunset that took me all the way into darkness giving me the time to unwind and lose that stress of the day’s work for a behind you on the road for others to run over and smash into oblivion like nothing else can do. For me it’s the best way to relax.
Ok, I love to ride my motorcycle that’s a given. Some ask me why I ride. It’s dangerous, or YUK bugs smash into you. And on and on the reason they seem all to willing to give you. I always smile and think: did I ask you reasons? It makes me smile because they just do not get it. I told quite a few that and I always am asked: What is it?
WHAT IS IT?
For me it’s a release, an escape from the daily hassles, the things you see on a motorcycle that you do not see in a car, the usually fresh air, and the again the lack of it. I usually get to see something different or memorable, good and once in a while, bad. (Drivers who don’t want to see you and do their best to separate you from the motorcycle.)
There is always an organized ride taking place in the area. They are fun, getting to know different fellow riders is always great. I do not do many of those. It’s not an anti-social thing, but they are usually a structured ride and I am more they type to do my own thing.
That for me means heading out and seeing a side road and saying, Hey I haven’t been that way in a while. And a lot of the time you see another turn and realize you have never gone that way so you just take it and enjoy where it takes you.
I also enjoy going on rides with my wife, riding two up for breakfast rides, lunch or dinner rides even just a short run for ice cream. It’s special to be able to ride with her and just enjoy riding together, even when it’s with no destination in mind.
I guess the best or most thrilling, or most memorable ride may just be the next one down the road.
